Aug 03, 2005 , NEW DELHI: Warning students against self-styled institutions which continue to operate and offer degree programmes without government recognition, the University Grants Commission has announced a list of 20 such universities/institutions.
While admitting that mushrooming of fake universities was a matter of great concern, the UGC reiterated that the identified institutions were not established as per Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956 and so did not have the right to issue degrees.
Once again figuring in the list are three institutes from the Capital. The Commercial University, United Nations University and Vocational University continue to operate from the city. Also in the list are the Delhi Vishwa Vidyapeeth in Model Town and ADR Centric Juridical University at Gopala Tower in Rajender Place here.
The others listed include Maithili University, Darbanga, Bihar; Mahila Gram Vidyapith, Prayag, Allahabad; Varanaseya Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya, Varanasi; Indian Educational Council of U.P. in Lucknow; Gandhi Hindi Vidyapith, Prayag; and National University of Electro Complex Homoeopathy, Kanpur.
The other institutes in the list are Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose University (Open University) Chantal, Aligarh; DDB Sanskrit University, Putur, Tiruchi, Tamil Nadu; St.John's University, Krishnattam; Uttar Pradesh Vishwavidyalaya, Kosi Kalan, Mathura; Maharana Pratap Shiksha Niketan Vishwavidyalaya, Pratapgarh; Raja Arabic University, Nagpur; Kesarwani Vidyapith, Jabalpur; Badaganvi Sarkar World Open University Education Society, Belgaum; Bhartiya Shiksha Parishad, Lucknow; and Handwriting University India, Bangalore.
